Three opening events launch soundaXis' inaugural celebration of
architecture, music and acoustics running city-wide June 1st to 11th,
2006.

On Wednesday May 31st at 6:30pm, join soundaXis festival directors and
featured international guests for the public opening of "XENAKIS: A
PORTRAIT
IN IMAGES", hosted by Alliance Française de Toronto's La Galerie,
located at
24 Spadina Rd. This panel portrait and biographical exhibition
celebrates
the work of revolutionary sound architect and festival inspiration,
Iannis
Xenakis.  Created by the Centre de documentation de la musique
contemporaine
(Paris), this opening event features special guest speakers including an
appearance by the composer's widow and distinguished French writer,
Françoise Xenakis.

On Thursday June 1st at 12:00 noon, soundaXis soars into Toronto in a
crescendo of sound when Soundstreams Canada presents "FANFARES @ FRUM"
featuring the Stockholm Chamber Brass, European soloists, and top
Canadian
players. Creating a spectacular "sound atrium" by lining the CBC's
balconies
with breathtaking brass, players perform new commissions by Canadian and
European composers, all taking place at the Barbara Frum Atrium, CBC
Broadcast Centre, 250 Front St. West. Free

From the daytime extravaganzas to extraordinary evening performances,
join
soundaXis at 8pm, also on June 1st, for the much anticipated, "XENAKIS
BY
ESPRIT", soundaXis' opening concert, including a pre-concert "Composers
in
Dialogue" at 7:15pm with Esprit Orchestra conductor, Alex Pauk and
guests.
Taking place at the Jane Mallet Theatre, 27 Front St. East, "XENAKIS BY
ESPRIT"  features "Jonchaies" by Xenakis - a work of volcanic energy for
very large orchestra, containing some of his most melodically expressive
music. The program also spotlights John Rea's "Hommage à Vasarely" - a
sonic
parallel to the visual textures of the renowned abstract painter, and
Alexina Louie's visceral and compelling, "Imaginary Opera". For more
information visit http://www.espritorchestra.com and
http://www.soundaxis.ca
or call (416) 815-7887. Tickets can be purchased through the Lawrence
