The organizers of the 2nd annual Toronto International Jerk & Jazz Festival-
presented Saturday August 19th
2006 in Toronto's Queen’s Park- would like to THANK ALL OUR PARTICIPANTS who
came out to make our second year a HUGE SUCCESS. Over 5 000 + people
came out in spite of the day's
inclement weather and enjoyed a day of Caribbean Jerk cooking and the
Sweet Smooth Sounds of Jazz. We would like thank our featured artists: The
Contemporary Jazz Group, Quincy Bullen, Omar Gittens, Haley Small, Shianne
Phillips, Ashley Martinez, Omar Heslop, Kennetia Seon, Brothers From Different
Mothers, Victor Crowl, Phoenix Steel Band, Daniel Huezo, Chemagne Martin, Barry
Gardner, Mr. Pablo Terry and Sol de Cuba and Perfect Cadence.
We would like to THANK our participating Celebrity judges
at this years 2nd Annual Toronto
International Jerk Chicken Competition – Jennifer Huntley (Radio
Personality- CHRY), Chef Anneif Coote (Exec. Chef at The Strand Restaurant),
Ben Johnson ( Former World Champion Sprinter), Farley Flex (Judge in Canadian
Idol), Jeremy Parsons (Mixologist - Cocktails- The Fluid Experience), Spex (The
Riddim Track Master FLOW 93.5FM), Rudy Blair (680 News Radio Personality),
Victor Machado (640 AM- Radio), Howard Green (Stuntman and Martial Artists Film
and Television), Sara Olah (Co-Host of “Street Eats”), Kenneth McFarlane
(Entrepreneur- Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant), Kevin Carrington (CHRY Radio) and last but not the least,
Mr. Michael Yarde (Rogers Television).
We would like to Congratulate our 2nd annual
Jerk Chicken Competition winners, 1st place of $ 1,200.00 to Chef Dwight
Boswell of Chalice Catering who took the title for the second year in a row, 2nd
place winner of $800.00 went to Harold and Marcia of Mr. Cream O, and $500.00 to 3rd place and
People Choice Award winner Tripple Star Restaurant. We also want to
congratulate Mr. David Powell- who left the competition still eating, by
winning both the Jerk Chicken and Fried Plantain Eating Competition, and we
would like to thank all the contestants for a VERY ENTERTAINING CONTEST. A
special THANKS to our MC’s Michelle Hughes, Miguel Hyman, who had everyone
chanting “Eat That Jerk, the grizzle, the grizzle, the grizzle” which
had the audience rolling in stitches all day long and Mr. Michael Yarde and Mr.
Clive Braham.
The Children
and Youth Entertainment Centre was a hit with parents and children alike and we received many
positive comments regarding the inclusiveness of the festival for a complete
Family Oriented Experience. Unfortunately our Family Fun & Games
centre was once again cancelled due to unsafe playing surface in the park area.
The festival was created to raise funds and awareness for two community based
