Two-time Dora Award winner, Anusree Roy, is back with a new work: Letters to my Grandma.

 

Following the overwhelming success of Pyaasa, Theatre Jones Roy returns with a new play, Letters to my Grandma. This unforgettable one-woman show weaves together the journeys of two women, a grandmother and her granddaughter, through post-millennium Toronto and Second World War India. Framed by the story of Malobee, an Indian-born Canadian immigrant, and her decision to marry with her deceased grandmother’s blessing but not her physical presence, Letters to my Grandma intertwines Malobee’s experiences as a recent immigrant with her Grandma’s struggles to survive alone with her newborn child through the turmoil of war.

 

From the creative team that brought you one of Now Magazine’s Top 10 productions of 2008, and starring two-time Dora Award winner Anusree Roy, Letters to my Grandma is a poignant, courageous and honest portrayal of loneliness, the divide between immigrant youth and the families they leave behind, and the regret borne of actions taken for love.
